When you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 then you will receive the 0X8024200D error. When you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 by using Windows Update or by using the automatic updating feature then you will receive the following error:

0X8024200D

Causes:

This error occurs when you use Dynamic Update to install the version of Windows Vista application compatibility update and you try to install the Windows Vista SP1. The May version of the Windows Vista application compatibility update does not correctly update certain files on the computer. Windows Vista SP1 uses these same files. Because these files are not updated correctly, setup fails. Dynamic Update is a feature in Windows Vista Setup which works with Windows Update to download important fixes and also drivers that are important for the Setup process.

Manual steps to remove Windows error 0X8024200D:

i) Run a System Update Readiness tool KB947821.
ii) If you got this error due to the old version of RSAT tools then follow the below steps.
iii) Uninstall the old version RSAT tools.
iv) Reboot the system.
v) Install the new version of RSAT tools.
vi) Reinstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
vii) Now run a remove package command for offending package found in your system event log or in CBS log.

To resolve this error, install the latest Windows Vista application compatibility update and install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 again. Follow the steps: Download and install the latest Windows Vista application compatibility update. Now restart your system. Now install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 again.
