If you are using Windows Operating system and installing .NET framework then you may receive the error “The system cannot open the device or file specified”. It is an internal error which occurs due to encrypted Temp folder. Sometime user encrypts the Temp folder by using the Encrypted File System before completing the installation of .NET Framework Setup.exe. To fix error-the system cannot open the device or file specified you have to go to Temp Folder and Uncheck Encrypt contents to secure data before completing the installation. Steps are given in the below paragraph so read and follow.

When you try to install .NET Framework in your system it stopped with the given error message-

Error message In the VS .NET Windows Component Update Setup dialog box-

Entry may appear in the Baseventlog.txt file-

Microsoft .NET Framework: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : Error code 110 for this component means “The system cannot open the device or file specified.”

Manual solution of this error:

Since the cause of this error is encrypted Temp Folder so you have to uncheck the option which has encrypted the Temp Folder. If you are using Windows XP professionals then follow the given steps-

i) Right click on Temp folder and select properties
ii) Click on Advanced
iii) Click on the check box “Encrypt contents to secure data”
iv) Press OK and restart the system then try again to install .NET framework.
