Stop error 0xc0000139 occurs in Windows XP Service Pack 3 when you try to try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC1 or RC2 on a Windows XP Service Pack 2. The RC1 and RC2 called Release Candidate 1 and Release Candidate 2 which are unable to install due to internal file missing (Entry Point Not Found). The issue behind this error is path missing of the GDI32.dll dynamic link library. The error message is given below for your better guide- STOP: 0xc0000139 {Entry Point Not Found} The procedure entry point GdiGetBitmapBitsize could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll.

Cause of this error:

If you install security update 948590 before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 1 and Release Candidate 2. After installing the new updates the version of GDI32.dll is replaced with the newer version but the Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC1 and RC2 has the old version of GDI32.dll installed so due to this issue you are receiving the stop error 0xc0000139 installing Windows XP service pack 3 RC1 and RC2 on a Windows Service Pack 2 based computer.

Resolution of this error:

Since Gdi32.dll file is missing or incompatible to support to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 so restart the system after inserting the Windows XP CD or the startup disk then run the recovery console to replace the version of Gdi32.dll which is incompatible to upgrade Windows XP Service Pack 3. Follow the given steps to Run Recovery Console-

i) Insert the Windows XP startup disk and restart the system
Select an option that is required to start the computer
ii) Press R when the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears
iii) Give the administrator password if you promoted for a password
iv) In the Recovery Console Command type, the given command and press enter after each command
ren %windir%\system32\gdi32.dll %windir%\system32\gdi32.dll.old
copy %windir%\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll %windir%\system32\gdi32.dll
v) Type exit to close the Recovery Console

The given command will backup the current version of the Gdi32.dll and replace Gdi32.dll with this current version.
