If you are running windows 7 or windows server 2008 R2 and want to join to a Samba 3-based domain and if you also have successfully joined to a Samba 3-based domain but you receive error message that is “The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.” You receive this error because your system requires a domain controller which supports the Active directory service that needs to verify the domain DNS suffix after the system joins the domain. On the other hand, a Samba 3-based domain controller doesn’t sustain the Active Directory service. Location and modifications of Samba are made in /etc/samba/smb.confconfiguration file. Even the default smb.conf file is fine documeneted but it doesn’t address the files such as LDAP, Active Directory etc. Secondly you also receive this error when you try to run the Active Directory Installation Wizard or you can say Dcpromo.exe designed for a new domain controller. To fix this error if you execute the Dcdiag tool in the domain controller then you may receive Sysvol errors and also you may not able to fix any operation manager roles errors. And when you try to fix these manager roles then you get the 1355 error message. This is because the Sysvol directory have not joint with the domain controller.
