When you as a network administrator or one of your users try to install Microsoft office XP SP3, then you may get the following error message: “The expected version of the product was not found on your system” When you try to update Microsoft Office XP to Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) then you may receive an error message which states that the expected version was not found. Symptoms:

When you as a network administrator try to install Office XP SP3 then you may receive the error message: “The expected version of the product was not found on your system”.

Causes:

This problem may occur because of the following reason:

If you have Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 or Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 installed and updated from an administrative installation point. Then this error may generate. If you try to update your Office XP installation from Microsoft Web sites which generally is binary updates. The update for Microsoft Office XP from the Microsoft web sites is generally binary updates which may cause the error. This error also occurs if you try to install Office XP Service pack 1 (SP1) on an unreleased version or a Beta version of Office XP.

Steps to resolve it:

First Method: Use the Office XP Service Pack 3 full-file update: For this you can use the office XP Service Pack 3 full file update in order to update your administrative installation point or an individual client that has Office XP installed. Second Method: Use a new RTM-base level administrative installation point: If you do not want to maintain your office XP administrative installation point with the updates and service packs then you can create a new XP installation point at the Office XP RTM-base level. When you are done with installing Office XP to a client computer from your new Office XP RTM-base administrative installation point then you can use the binary updates from any of the Microsoft Web sites. Always purchase and install a retail version of Office XP, and then install Service Pack 1 on the released version. Beta versions and unreleased versions cannot be updated.
